Mission
Spyglass Capital Management was founded to deliver on its Mission of generating exceptional investment results and developing enduring client relationships.
Firm
Spyglass is an independently owned institutional investment boutique based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Spyglass manages a single strategy, the Spyglass Growth Strategy, which is a concentrated, long-only portfolio of 25 rapidly growing, small-to mid-sized growth companies that are led by entrepreneurial management teams operating in secular growth industries.
Spyglass was founded in 2015 by Jim Robillard, CIO, after eleven years at Edgewood Management, a growth manager in New York. Jim moved from New York to California to launch Spyglass and to be immersed in the epicenter of the growing megatrends in the economy.
Spyglass’s culture is based on the belief that “the future belongs to the optimists.” Our core values of intellectual curiosity, integrity, persistence, and teamwork fuel the pursuit of our Mission.
Investment Philosophy
At Spyglass, we are Value Investors in Growth Companies. We do not conform to a traditional investment style. We invest with a well-defined valuation framework in businesses operating in secular growth industries.
As fundamental investors, we hunt for opportunities where we observe economic change. Our investments tend to focus on industries benefiting from megatrends in the economy such as artificial intelligence, genomics, cloud computing, digitization, robotics and automation, and transition to electric and autonomous transportation. We seek to capitalize, selectively, on the value that innovative, transformative, and disruptive companies will generate over time.
Spyglass believes alpha is driven by three primary factors: a differentiated opinion based on Original Fundamental Research, a Valuation Discipline based on expected company fundamentals, and Portfolio Concentration in 25 Stocks of our highest conviction investment ideas.
Investment Process
Spyglass builds a 25-stock portfolio of our highest conviction investment ideas, and our Seven Core Investment Criteria serve as the foundation for every investment. Spyglass’s original fundamental research is based on these Seven Core Investment Criteria and informs our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) company assessment.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Spyglass is committed to three core pillars of Corporate Social Responsibility.
Spyglass seeks to uphold the highest ethical and corporate citizenship standards, and these values are expressed through our commitments to how we integrate ESG, how we give back, and how we operate.
ESG factors are an integral part of the Spyglass investment and risk mitigation process and help identify material risks and opportunities, particularly for small-and mid-sized companies. Spyglass uses its proprietary ESG company assessment and scoring model to actively integrate ESG factors when deciding to buy or sell a company.
Spyglass applies exclusionary screening for companies that produce tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, adult entertainment, cluster munitions, landmines, and civilian firearms, as well as those that operate gambling establishments, develop tar sands, mine thermal coal, or extract Arctic oil. Spyglass will not invest in companies that engage in any of these activities.
Spyglass takes an active role in key organizations that promote ESG in an effort to protect the interests of our clients. Spyglass is a signatory member of the Principles for Responsible Investing (PRI).

Signatory status is as of the date of the most recent quarter end and represents participation/methodology alignment but not an endorsement of Spyglass’s services or performance.
Community Partnership
Spyglass has been a proud mentor and sponsor of ICA Cristo Rey Academy, an all-girl’s college in San Francisco that aims to empower girls from underserved communities, since 2021. In 2025, as part of ICA’s Corporate Work Study program, Spyglass sponsored two students who each spent one day per week in our office.
Community Service Days
Spyglass has established Community Service Days which are employer-sponsored volunteer days.
Matching Gifts Program
Spyglass supports employees’ charitable efforts though its Matching Gifts Program.

Sustainable, socially responsible, and environmentally friendly practices begin with a firm’s culture and its employees. Currently, the majority of Spyglass employees drive electric vehicles or carpool as their primary form of commute. Spyglass has eliminated all plastic cutlery and cups on its premises and provides reusable and compostable options instead.
Spyglass is dedicated to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where all employees and others feel valued and respected. Spyglass is committed to maintaining a nondiscriminatory approach and providing equal opportunity for employment and advancement. Spyglass respects and values diverse life experiences and heritage and takes measures to ensure all voices are heard and valued. Spyglass has adopted a formal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy and conducts periodic training for all employees.
Team
Spyglass encourages a Socratic model of debate and inquiry. Our goal is to always discover the truth through deep fundamental research and cooperative team dialogue, and to leverage our collective knowledge to make the most informed decisions.
“All truths are easy to understand
once they are discovered, the point
is to discover them.” – Galileo
All investment team members are generalists – curious by nature and completely focused on original fundamental research.
